Sharing the Joys of River Cruising

Just found this site via http://www.rhinecruiseforless.com .
Although we are experienced big ship cruisers, we have never cruise via riverboat but I have always wanted to. So for me, it is like being a cruise virgin all over again . . . . you know the one with a million questions.
Rather than ask specifics today, can any/some of you give me generalities/advice. Info on sellers of these cruises (any to avoid). Advantages of one itinerary over another. One line over another. Best value., etc.
We would limit ourselves to Europe.

Rhine Early Spring Round trip Amsterdam for tulips
Amsterdam to Switzerland 7 -12 Nights
Danube Prague to Budapest 9 - 14 days
90% of the river cruise passengers start with these Then move on to France/Blackk Sea/Russia/China/Cambodia Etc Etc
