KOLKATA: A new cruise on the
river Ganga from Kolkata to Varanasi which will enable tourists, both from home and abroad, to revisit the country's
colonial past will be launched here from Monday by the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation Limited.
"This is the first cruise on the Ganges after almost 200 years. Very few journeys can be as interesting as a journey into the colonial past," Managing Director of WBTDCL T V N Rao said here.
"This will promote many of the less visited areas of West Bengal to international tourism. We will also be venturing into the Sundarbans at a later stage," he said.
A specially designed vessel, RV Bengal Pandaw, designed on the lines of a colonial steamer, would take 15 days to sail from Kolkata to Varanasi.
